LOAD IN / LOAD OUT @ Chicago Architecture Bienniale
LOAD IN / LOAD OUT serves as both a staging area and a stage for the LOT-EK THEATRE FOR ONE (T41)—a deployable object designed to deliver intimate, one-to-one performative experiences. This innovative installation explores the intersection of urban intervention, repurposed materials, and socially engaging art.
The T41 is a two-person environment, upcycled from "roadcase" components typically used for musical and technical equipment. Compact and mobile, it is designed for deployment in urban “theater deserts,” catalyzing intimate public performance art in under-served areas.
As a staging area, LOAD IN / LOAD OUT supports the T41 by providing a spatially rich environment for its preparation and launch. When the T41 moves into Chicago communities during the Biennial, the installation also functions as a documentation hub, contextualizing the T41’s performances and its role within urban landscapes.
The design incorporates upcycled delivery boxes repurposed into camera obscura, and jerry-rigged monitors, embedding the project within LOT-EK’s larger inquiry into URBAN SCAN—a research initiative focused on critically reimagining and repurposing abundant infrastructural artifacts. This approach highlights unrealized cultural, social, and political opportunities in overlooked urban spaces.
