MASSPORT STACK
A2 STACK / BOSTON

STACKS are temporary large-scale installations that aim at creating powerful spatial experience. Taking advantage of the systems and technologies to move and store shipping containers, STACKS propose ‘dry’ assemblies where containers are selected and simply piled up to form different configurations, generating variety both of volumes and of interior spaces.

A2 STACK is conceived to activate a large public space in the middle of an area of great expansion and gentrification. The volume creates a central core and divides and qualifies its surrounding areas to coordinate a variety of activities. Events, performances, music and markets engage the open space within the stack and the spaces around it.

A2 STACK is part of a new vision for the public realm to energize spaces in the South Boston Waterfront through diverse cultural representation, inclusive business development, and authentic public realm activation with and for communities from across Boston at large.

FISH PIER PAVILION / BOSTON

The Pavilion (two stacked 40-foot containers) activates the public space by the Fish Pier. A CUT system opens up the ground container transforming it into a porous and flexible space to house a variety of activities. The CUT pattern is repeated on the container above as a space for artwork selected and commissioned through an open call for artists. The top container acts also as a visual billboard for the site.

An additional smaller unit (a single 20-foot container), with the same CUT pattern, frames the former parking space and creates a presence along the sidewalk. It is also used as a flexible kiosk.
