MDU - Mobile Dwelling Unit

The Mobile Dwelling Unit (MDU) transforms a single shipping container into a flexible, self-contained living and working space. Cuts in the container's metal walls create extruded sub-volumes, each dedicated to a specific function—living, working, or storage.

When in transit, these sub-volumes retract, interlocking seamlessly within the container's dimensions to meet worldwide shipping standards. The exterior remains flush, ensuring compatibility with global freight systems. Upon arrival and setup, the sub-volumes extend outward, leaving the container's interior unobstructed, with all functions accessible along its sides.

The MDU’s interior, including its sub-volumes, is crafted entirely from plywood and plastic-coated plywood, integrating all fixtures and furnishings for a cohesive and durable design. Originally conceived for individuals frequently relocating across the globe, the MDU travels with its dweller, equipped with essential live/work features and personal belongings. It also easily adapts to serve as a permanent residence.

The MDU redefines mobility, offering a compact yet versatile solution for modern nomads seeking a fully functional, transportable home.
