PIKE SCHOOL OF ART
(in progress)
LOT-EK’s design for the Pike School of Art transforms the former Pike County Youth Detention Center in McComb, Mississippi, into a vibrant hub for art, education, and community engagement. This reimagined space celebrates local heritage while fostering creativity and connection.
The site’s layout is reoriented around a new open courtyard that links two refurbished buildings. One building houses flexible educational spaces, while the other is dedicated to art production and exhibitions. Upcycled 53-foot shipping containers form an elevated porch, a nod to McComb’s rich railroad history. This structure provides unique lookout points and seamlessly connects key facilities, including the gallery, ceramic studio, computer lab, artist residences, and a communal garden.
By embracing Pike County’s artistic traditions and community spirit, the Pike School of Art creates a transformative space where art and education unite, inspiring growth and collaboration for generations to come.
