Two 20’-foot containers tour New York City as retail shops, introducing Uniqlo to the United States. They are designed for placement in different city neighborhoods for special events, and function as branded pop-up stores – fully equipped with shelving space, cash-wrap, and fitting room. Vertical windows align with shelving to display folded merchandise on the exterior, expressing the warehouse-like stacks typical of the UNIQLO brand. The fitting room is a custom-designed duct, which gathers like an accordion towards the ceiling by a manually cranked pulley system. The store is lit by linear bands of light on both the floor and ceiling. Dressing mirrors line both ends of the containers, visually elongating the limited space.
