WHITNEY MUSEUM ART HUB
LOT-EK’s ART HUB for the Whitney Museum reimagines public engagement with art through a vibrant, welcoming space designed as a “public square” for art-making, gathering, and community interaction.
The installation features six modular units, crafted from upcycled shipping containers, forming flexible indoor-outdoor spaces seamlessly integrated with a central plaza. This plaza serves as a lively, open area inviting New Yorkers and visitors alike to connect, create, and experience art.
A 360-degree second-level balcony, accessed via a signature ADA-compliant ramp, provides panoramic city views and transforms the space into a “theater in the round.” This design encourages a sense of immersion, celebrating art within the urban context.
The ART HUB highlights sustainable design by repurposing containers, preserving their embodied energy and history. As a long-term temporary structure, it offers a dynamic venue aligned with the Whitney Museum’s mission to make art accessible to diverse communities across the city, fostering inclusivity and creativity.
