concept & vision

our studio is in the real Meat Packing District, early 90ies. We collect what we find, and transform everyday objects with minimum hardware and limited construction skills

fan-lamp

FAN-LAMP, we find a squirrel fan from an old AC, and mount it directly on an electric box

bed-room

BED-ROOM FOR A WORK-LIVE LOFT SPACE, we hinge eight pallets together (4+4) and hold them through pulleys and ropes operated by two electric motors. The horizontal enclosed space of private bedroom comfort, conceived as a capsule within a large loft space, is equipped with all technological necessities - tv, radio, fan, reading light. The motor&pulley system temporarily transforms this capsule into an oblique, open configuration for collective time

stereo-chair

STEREO CHAIR, we tilt a mail cart and transform it into a reclining lounger by lining it with scrap foam and equipping it with stereo speakers and reading light

desk

DESK, we bend a box spring and hold it off the floor with broom and mop sticks and pipes, discarded linear elements to enclose a working station fully equipped with computer, radio, telephone, containers for stationary, and a hanger for your coat

gossip-chair

GOSSIP CHAIR, we cut and mirror an oil drum and fit it with a coffee-maker and embedded porcelain coffee cups

armoire

ARMOIRE, we install conduits between two osb pallets to make a volume with blue tarp. Inside, refrigerator meshes offer pull-out drawers. Outside, an collapsible ironing board from a found aluminum signage, a vanity with hairdryer, a bag for dirty clothes. Above, a mesh to hold luggage. Truly, our fascination with construction sites!

electric-chairs

ELECTRIC CHAIRS / 3 found chairs thought of as 'microchips', each incorporating a single human/technological function / 1. CALL, a telephone and an answering machine are disassembled to engage all the parts of the body involved in a 'phone call', leaving the hands free / 2. MAKE UP, an old chair is transformed into a vanity table equipped with hair dryer, mirror and lights / 3. WATCH, a bare TV set is buried into a chair and lifted up to be used as a changing light lamp or watched through a system of mirrors

impact & significance

technological desire and random encounter bring together urban refuse in the construction of these real-use mechanical furnishings
