concept & vision:
in Times Square, space and crowds are the event. Elevated catwalks provide access above the street and up the sides of the buildings, inhabiting the spaces behind the billboards. The paths enhance transition and movement, yet allow pausing to view and feel the energy of the square. Multiple and varied vantage points can be variously programmed, changing to accommodate larger crowds and the daily traffic alike
architecture & design:
an elevated set of paths allow for passage above the bowtie, connecting with side streets, with the raised portion of the new TKTS booth, and with the subway system below. It includes flexible components for specific events such a collapsible stage and bleachers
program & use
the activated billboards provide views and amenities - comfort stations and lunchtime benches perching above street and visitors. They also provide general balconies for the spectacle and box seats and platforms for public figures and speeches. Or function as elevated media staging areas for film and TV camera crews to record special event
