WE START WITH THE THINGS WE FIND
concept & vision:
the Bohen Foundation, a private organization supporting contemporary art and culture, focuses on commissioning and exhibiting works of exceptional scale and complexity that often exceed the scope of conventional galleries. Its operations requires maximum spatial flexibility to accommodate a wide range of media, including two-dimensional works, projections, sculptural pieces, site-specific and multi-media installations
design & architecture
we design an adaptable system of eight shipping-container within the rigid structural grid of the ground floor of a former printing facility. Two containers are placed within each nave of the space, each housing a permanent function: offices, a conference room, a video library/projection room, and a library/lounge
program & use
each container is also a movable enclosure, featuring five 15x12-foot wall panels packed along its side. These containers form exhibition spaces by sliding along tracks to predetermined locations. Once in place, the wall panels are deployed to define the exhibition areas. The modularity of the wall panels allowed for spaces to be configured in various sizes and shapes, offering flexibility to accommodate diverse curatorial needs
impact & significance
flexible, playful and surprising, with different space layouts at each exhibition, our design proposes a seamless and easy adaptation for the broad demands of contemporary art
