concept & vision

as VHS tapes became obsolete, the problem of disposing them became complex as content needs to be erased prior to disposal. About 500 VHS tapes from the discarded archives of CBS News are compressed between two wood frames by steel rods running through the two holes of each tape

design & architecture

foam strips are trapped by the tapes in compression offering a softer, padded area for the body. The chair is conceived as an intimate environment to watch news

impact & significance

retrofitted with a TV monitor and a DVD player, the chair uses obsolete technology as structure, expressing its physicality and color, while providing the same viewing experience through new, up-to-date technology
