an alternative visions of an ongoing construction site as an alternative hotel

concept & vision
a commission from the Storefront to artists, designers, and architects to depict alternative visions of ongoing construction sites throughout New York City, offering a space of reflection and critique of current development practices and the architectures that build them. We work on a site next to our lower east side studio where a tall, concrete core is waiting for its surrounding hotel rooms
impact & significance
you want to build a hotel in the lower east side? Invent a new kind, please. Citizen, the New York experience unfiltered. We imagine a hotel as an elevated campground, an unfinished, exposed-to-the-elements, screened space floating from its central core—an unfinished building that stays as such to enable the physical experience of a construction site, or the paradox of a permanent work-in-progress
