WE START WITH THE THINGS WE FIND
a seamless exhibition space for our beloved Henry Urbach
architecture & design
two tubular sections, inserted in the two Chelsea warehouse bays, with rounded floor/walls and ceiling/walls corners, create a seamless background for large architectural installations. The larger “tube” houses the main exhibition area, the smaller one a secondary exhibition area and office. The corridor-like space in between the two “tubes” is divided up into entrance, reception and storage by the reception desk and a screen. Both are made out of metal mesh imbibed into translucent rubber, and both rotate on a central pivot to allow access to the area behind them
impact & significance
Henry Urbach Architecture was our gallery for many years, showing works of incredible artists and architects - François Roche, An Te Liu, Lebbeus Woods, Jürgen Mayer H., Yolande Daniels, Diller and Scofidio, and many, many more. Henry was a mentor and a friend, we loved working with him when he had no gallery and moved through art fairs, and were proud to design his real gallery in Chelsea, a place to gather and learn for many of us. We miss you Henry!
