LOT-EK lectures at RIT Vignelli Center, Rochester
concept & vision
a container stack, hinged at the tip of the triangular site, offers the opportunity for larger open spaces and more intimate classroom areas for this student center, activating a leftover site on campus
design & architecture
we stack containers on an alternating pattern on the two long sides of the triangle, allowing for large glazing and cross light in between. We also run containers diagonally on each long elevation as bracing structure and to house the center's vertical circulation. Inside, open spaces are interconnected through a vertical atrium
impact & significance
with great care we work with the school team to imagine a flexible and engaging study center for the students' community, activating an awkward leftover and unused lot
