concept & vision

we conceive the passenger terminal as a single structure that spans 1,800 feet, the length on the entire site, as a hybrid for multiple functions that engages the energy of their proximity and juxtaposition

design & architecture

we organize the TERMINAL as a three-level steel frame repeated to support walkways and modular enclosures along the length of the entire site. Different levels correspond to the different functions, visually connected throughout the building. We imagine the TOWER as an unfinished building where a structural frame is plugged with prefab enclosures/shipping containers to house hotel rooms and offices. The underground movement of the trains along the building’s main axis is reflected in the circulation of people and cars within and above the terminal and shown virtually along the façade together with travel information and advertisement. Running between two major thoroughfares this 1,800-foot-long programmable billboard guarantees continuous revenue to the structure and a dynamic relationship to the city

program & use

spanning over the underground train tunnels, the ground level houses travel related program, culture and commerce flank the second floor, and parking occupies the roof. The tower develops its multiple functions along its vertical axis. Its hybrid program includes a public lobby/shopping area connected to the terminal at the base, parking, offices, hotel and restaurant and observatory deck at the top

impact & significance

a project about passage, or passages. both as use and perception – passage through, between, within, from. Passage between parts of the city, between old and new, past and present, between city dwellers and travelers, between Turin and other places, between experiences, between levels, modes of transportation, modes of experience. Passage creating disruption and/or continuity. Pedestrian and car accesses cut through and across the site creating fluid movement between the parts of the city previously divided by the old train station
