concept & vision

our proposed hovering tunnel contains a long path pierced with vision and perception devices - surveillance cameras on steel spikes survey life and zoom in on surrounding streets, gardens, offices, stores, ice rink, while projectors reveal their views onto the curved walls of the tube. Visitors along this new urban path witness a sampler of everyday actions selected by the Tube’s many eyes

design & architecture

our Vision-Tube is composed of six aluminum gasoline tanks joined into a continuous 210-foot-long space divided by the rhythm of the tanks’ baffle walls. Visitors enter through an accessible ramp at 5th avenue, and proceed along a continuous catwalk that we insert cutting through the tanks' existing baffle walls. The long structure is supported by a steel scaffold that rises above the channel garden

impact & significance

we are asked to propose an installation for Rockefeller center, and relate to the origin of the family's wealth—oil. We are interested in these common objects, the tanks, their structure and space, and in the incredible reference they hold to this specific site. We twist the site narrative through the surprise of entering them - an everyday object to highlight everyday people
