concept & vision

we conceive a continuous canopy made of container and elevated on stilts to negotiates the entire water edge. The structure offers food and beverage and entertainment establishments within its enclosed areas, and covered public space throughout, incorporating amphitheaters, a large pool, and palm trees

design & architecture

about 500 adjacent containers form two long, mostly parallel, bands. We connect them directly to the pedestrian area around the traffic rotunda at the southern end, whereas the north end of the strip bifurcates to surround the existing buildings. And we pierce them with circular courtyards to create visual connections through the 3 layers of the structure

program & use

our inhabitable canopy offers a three-level pedestrian experience: at the ground level, shaded under the container strip; at the second level, within the enclosed and climate-controlled container environment; at the roof deck, accessible directly from the ground following the ascending stepping movement in multiple points along the canopy structure. Through vantage points, visitors can enjoy prime views of the water and landscape, and of the adjacent race circuit

impact & significance

15-years after we design this proposal, we look at the actual built on the site: a line of palm trees, a wide sidewalk, mostly parking, a few tents. Sad to see a project not getting through, and still excited about our canopy
