concept & vision
we realize these works through cutting and removing, chiefly through meticulous laser-cutting from surfaces of cardboard boxes. We embrace their potential, layer them with a graphic band of paint, and burn them to cut through or to expose the cardboard corrugation, which we use as the corrugation of our containers independently of scale. We work through the limitation of our machine - its size is the module. And then assemble, by folding, or flattening, or stacking, to test the box, and to test scale
impact & significance
an overwhelming amount of discarded cardboard boxes incite us to embrace them—they are the smaller unit traveling within containers. We retain their original Amazon and other commercial or shipping labels, their signage, tape, stickers. We keep them as witnesses and expression of a particular time and lifestyle, and of our consumption. And layer them with our thoughts, some built, some imagined
