concept & vision
UrbanScan is an ongoing archive to reflect upon our contemporary environment and find inspiration in its often neglected, marginal, banal manifestations. We explicitly show the direct connection with our architecture speculation, working with existing Objects
design & architecture
large industrial objects and systems are used as raw materials. An experimental construction technology imports Found Objects into architecture, transforming and retrofitting them through a series of systematic Operations, the foundation of our conceptual Design Practice
program & use
eight linear meters are lined with vertical strips that display our experimental design practice across a variety of objects, scales and mediums. A wall paper reproduces an Objects-based selection of the UrbanScan in which each strip is a photographic catalog of one Object. Text and graphics also call out our design Operations: Wrap / Stack / Pull-out / Crop / Tilt / Plug-in / Shift. At eye level, we install conceptual monochromatic models of design concepts developed from the interaction of Object + Operations at different scale. We conceive them as a zoom-in/crop of a specific architecture assembly. Below the models, the wall paper contains photos of related details of actual projects, built and not
impact & significance
a candid sharing of a practice in-the-making, and a moment of reflection and awareness on our own trajectory
