a summer, beach-like experience on an urban construction site, or a contemporary loggia for the enjoyment of sun, shade, water, city views, sound and moving image

concept & vision
for this summer warm up, we propose a vertical leisure center, a single line that crosses PS1's courtyard activating this open space as a summer site - an intentionally temporary construction site open to the community
design & architecture
our scaffolding holds a number of containers and roll-off dumpsters, and it is enclosed by tarp for shading. The 3-level structure uses all scaffolding components, including stairs and folded tarp for chairs, to offer an occupiable elevated beach site with city views
program & use
10 roll-off dumpsters are used as 10 shallow swimming pools, with changing and relaxation rooms and DJ booth in containers
impact & significance
of this early project, we love its playfulness and ingenuity, and its simple and strong relationship with PS1 - its building and courtyard - and with the surrounding neighborhood. We lost to SHoP's Dunescape, a beautiful and fun early digital project
