concept & vision
WORK-IN-PROGRESS, or spelling out our work as one single project / ongoing / a pursuit, an intention, an inquiry / exploring in the real, physical matter of things / our hands dirty, making things, and buildings, and experiences / yet questioning the extreme implications of our discoveries / our minds intrigued by the shear numbers of shipping containers on our planet, trying to visualize / sharing the data / playing always / alert
TEU
Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit / a general unit of cargo capacity based on a 20-foot long shipping container / 20x8x8.6 FT
LINE / outward
ONE LINE THAT IS 86 TIMES EARTH DIAMETER, MOVES US INTO SPACE / 180 million TEUs in a single line, from earth outward / connected at their short side—8 feet x 8.6 feet adjacency / their long side as one queue—20 feet x 180 million
LINE / moon
FROM EARTH TO THE MOON AND BACK / TO THE MOON AGAIN—THAT LIVES US THERE, TO WATCH, OR TO KEEP GOING … / 180 million TEUs from earth to the moon / distance from Earth to the Moon: 238,900 miles / 238,900 x 264 (miles in TEUs) = over 63 million TEUs / 180 million TEUs : 63 million = 2.85 times / You can travel 2.85 times from Earth to the Moon
CIRCLE / twenty-seven lines
27 TIMES AROUND OUR PLANET / 180 million TEUs in a single line going around earth / TEUs connected at their short side—8 feet x 8.6 feet adjacency / Earth Circumference = 24,902 miles / 24,902 x 264 TEUs = 6,575,128 TEUs / 180 million ÷ 6,575,128 = 27.4
