concept & vision
taking advantage of the systems and technologies to move and store shipping containers, STACKS propose ‘dry’ assemblies where containers are selected and simply piled up to form different configurations, generating variety of both volumes and interior spaces
design & architecture
we work with our containers collaborators in New Jersey. In two days, simply using the ability of the forklift operator - thank you Steve Biko! - we place containers on top of each other with precision and without any additional securing hardware. We test a square and a triangular stack with the intent of creating space, working against the grain of container stacks, generally very compact for efficiency
impact & significance
we embrace strategies of repetition and variations, following and challenging the shipping container structural logic, and twisting conventional container stacks and masses with attention to space. In that, we set up a direct one-to-one experience as the spaces are visited, crossed and traversed freely. We recognize that STACKS hold the potential for large public space installations and experiences
