concept & vision
THE LOT RADIO is an independent online radio station streaming 24/7 that activates an empty leftover lot in Greenpoint as an outdoor space for the community
design & architecture
we stack two shipping containers on their corner in an L shape. The two levels line up two of the lot boundaries defining the outdoor gathering area for its surrounding community
program & use
on the ground level, the central space is the DJ booth, in direct visual and audio connection with the outdoor area. On one side, a small café that turns bar at night provides refreshments for the crowd, while the other houses accessible restroom and a large changing signage on Nassau Avenue. The second-level container houses storage including a walk-in refrigerator, and a lot-facing window for a second DJ station
impact & significance
we support this exemplar engagement with urban leftover space - with over 200 local residents and countless special guests passing by the radio DJ studio each week. Capturing and broadcasting the wide spectrum of New York City’s ever-evolving music scene, The LOT Radio and its small team aims to give music lovers a place to meet and share their knowledge, both online and IRL
